Afrobeats Artists Are Taking Over the Charts
As the summer heats up, so is the Afrobeats scene! Afroboeats music is spreading fast and hot like a California wildfire. From Lagos, Nigeria to Las Vegas, Nevada, the genre is making heat waves all across the world. It's been a long time coming, as artists and the industry have been putting in the work and knocking on the door for the last five to ten years or so. If you don’t believe me, check out the documentary on Netflix titled “Afrobeats” which also features our boy DJ Lentini from Los Angeles, California, who is the founder and producer of Ankara Festival in Los Angeles. So without much chatter, here are our 5 Top Afrobeats artists for our Summer ‘22 We Outside Collection. (We love ALL of these artists - these are in no particular order!)
Burna Boy: He needs no introduction to the airwaves these days. I’ve been following his career since 2009 and he is a musical genius. Burna Boy just dropped his latest project “Love Damini” and is currently on Tour in the USA.

Tems: She is a literal goddess. With her sweet melodies, her style, and unique voice, Tems is a one of a kind talent. She was put on the map by one of the best to ever do it, Wizkid, and together they had one of the biggest songs on the global charts: “Essence”. The song got even bigger when they added Justin Beiber. She recently won Best International Act at the 2022 BET Awards. Check out her work. She is amazing.

Fireboy DML: His song, Peru, is arguably one of the best Afrobeat jams over the last 12 months. He tapped Ed Sheeran for the remix, giving him an even more massive platform than he originally had. He also performed at the 2022 BET Awards and continues to make waves. He is also a YBNL artist.
